Kazakhstan

The roots of the Kazakh wine industry can be traced back to the VII century AD, when vines from neighboring Uzbekistan and China were brought to the region. Kazakhstan has a very typical continental climate. Most of the region's vineyards are located in the southern part of the country, close to the borders of China, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan, with several small regions along the Caspian Sea to the west. Although only about 4% of the land in Kazakhstan is ideally located for viticulture, the country manages to produce more than 6.2 million gallons of wine per year.

Currently, Kazakhstan's winemaking is mainly focused on the production of dessert wines. More than 40 grape varieties are grown in the country, although more than half are currently used for the production of table grapes, and not for winemaking.
