Krasnodar - Krai

«Krasnodar is the heart of Russia's wine region», where every sip tells the story of winemaking

It is the southernmost region of the Russian Federation. To the northeast, it borders the Rostov Oblast; to the east, the Stavropol Krai; and to the southeast, Abkhazia. To the northwest, it opens to the Sea of Azov, and to the southwest, it is washed by the waves of the Black Sea. Its total area covers 75.5 thousand km².

Wine Regions of Krasnodar Krai

There are four wine-growing zones in Krasnodar Krai: Anapa-Taman, Black Sea, Southern Piedmont, and the Central zone. Most of the region's most promising wineries are concentrated in the Anapa-Taman and Black Sea zones

The main international grape varieties, such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Pinot Franc, are cultivated in the Krasnodar Krai. Among the white varieties, Riesling, Pinot Blanc, Chardonnay, Aligoté, and Bianca dominate. Local farmers also grow a range of indigenous varieties, including Krasnostop Anapski, Granatovy, Sibir’kovy, Saperavi, Rkatsiteli, Mitsar, and many others, which produce excellent aged dry red wines, as well as dessert and fortified wines. Recently, winemakers in the Krasnodar Krai have been paying more attention to local varieties, in support of the global trend toward the active use of national grape varieties.

Climate
The climate is moderately continental, with a semi-arid Mediterranean climate along the Black Sea coast, from Anapa to Tuapse.
