Austrian's wine - growing area spans 44,210 hectares,primarily located inin the federal states of Niederösterreich (26,732 ha), Burgenland (11,538 ha), and Steiermark (5,109 ha)
These are classified as generic wine-growing regions.
Additionally, Austria is home to 17 specific wine-growing areas, including Wien (588 ha) and the Bergland area, which comprises five regions: Kärnten, Oberösterreich, Salzburg, Tirol, and Vorarlberg. Niederösterreich (Lower Austria) is Austria’s largest Qualitätswein wine-growing region.
Austria officially approves 40 grape varieties for wine production, including 26 white and 14 red. These grapes are used to produce Qualitätswein, Prädikatswein (made from specially harvested, ripe grapes), and Landwein.
Austria offers excellent vineyards for growing internationally recognised varieties such as: Riesling, Pinot Blanc, Chardonnay, Muskateller, Traminer, Pinot Noir, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah.
White wine varieties: 70%( 30847ha): Bronner, Cabernet blanc, Johanniter, Donaueltliner, Donauriesling, Solaris (only for wines from grapes harvested in the winegrowing area Bergland
Red wine varieties: 30 % (13364ha): Regent, Cabernet Jura, Pinot Nova
