Hungary

Hungary is known for its white Tokaj wines originating from the Tokaj region (Tokaj Hills). At the beginning of the 21st century in the EU, it was decided to name only Tokay wines from this region. In 2002, the vineyards on the territory of these two countries were recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. The uniqueness of Tokay wines provides a whole range of conditions: soil and climate (collectively forming a terroir), autochthonous grape varieties, methods of production and storage of wines.

Winemaking on the territory of modern Hungary arose more than two thousand years ago — first the Celts were engaged in viticulture here, then the Romans came to their place, followed by the Magyars, who brought their unique language to this territory.
